Colour Create #4 - blue & brown, lace & pearls

The colours we have for you this week at Colour Create are Blue and Brown. For this week's extra option we would like you to use lace and pearls, but please remember that this is not compulsory.

We would like to welcome Kim onto the Design Team as a permanent member and look forward to seeing many more of her wonderful creations. She was asked to join us from the very start, but had to delay this for a few weeks due to other commitments.

It also gives us great pleasure to introduce this week's guest designer Lynsey, it is a real honour to have her joining us for this week's challenge.

Oooooh! some of my favourites meant I really enjoyed this weeks challenge. I used Basic Grey Granola papers and brown bazzill bc. I made the flowers from the tutorial at Ikki's Cuttlebug Cupboard. Rather than have an image I decided to use a sentiment as the focal point of the card. I bought the gorgeous lace in Manchester last weekend and love it that much I now have about 3" left - why didn't I buy more - grrrrrrrrr.........

Tag You're It - 47 - Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend

Ooops - just noticed I put an extra A in Diamonds - back to the drawing board.

Not my usual style at all - so a real challenge for me, but nevertheless thoroughly enjoyable. The most difficult part was photographing it (bling does not photgraph well!!)
Diamonds are a Girl's Best Friend is the theme for Tag You're It this week. The image is one that Tara sent me (I think - if not ooops sorry!!) I coloured her with watercolours, replaced the gift parcel she was sitting on with a champagne glass (Magnolia). I had some 'blingy fabric which I cut and fastened to her dress. I gave her a diamond necklace, bracelet and a string of diamonds to hold. I finished the edges with some white & silver edging strip (ancient), diamontes and a silver flower and bow at the top. I computer generated the sentiment onto printable acetate and anchored it under the edging.

Basic Grey - Challenge 24 - Pockets

The challenge at Basic Grey is 'pockets'.
For this weeks challenge we would like to see you use pockets in your creation, interpret this how you would like, but of course not to forget to use at least one item from BasicGrey somewhere on your creation :)

I made a simple fold over round edged flap and put my pocket on the inside of the card. I used Bazzill basic cardstock and Basic Grey offbeat papers. The image is one of my new Gorjuss Girls, coloured with pastels, I placed her on a tag cut with nesties to slide into the pocket. The reverse is left to write a message on.

Friday Sketchers

Friday Sketchers have what they describe as a simple sketch - quote -

"Here is my sketch for the week. I made a quite simple and versatile sketch, so it's easy for you to play around with some elements."

I found I liked the simple sketch and really didn't want to add much in the way of embellishments, there again I couldn't resist adding one flower and a few swirls. In case you hadn't noticed I got myself a new EKSuccess corner/border punch and will probably bore you to death with it for a while (lol). I coloured my Gorjuss Girl with pastels, computer generated the sentiment, cut the swirls with a BossKut die and used papers from Cosco.

Sketch Saturday - 39

Sketch Saturday have a great sketch to follow this week. I chose one of the new WOJ stamps and papers that I thought lent themselves to the image. I tried to maintain a vintage/victorian feel to this card. I coloured the image with pastels and used lace and pearls as accents.

The flower is made from a tutorial on my Bloggy Mate Eileen's new blog Ikki's Cuttlebug Cupboard. Eileen has devoted this blog to cuttlebug tutorials and makes the most gorgeous cuttlebug cards. When I saw this flower I just had to do it.
I'm pleased with the result but have to say it isn't as 'tidy' as Eileens, but I just love the distresses, vintage look to it.

Friday Sketchers

A great sketch by Jacqueline to follow this week at Friday Sketchers. I chose to use Daisy which I coloured with pastels. The paper is Secret Garden by Papermania. I used the Textile embossing folder on the top triangle and inked the edges and the sentment is by Inkadinkado.

I'm Back

Thanks to all who left comments when I posted about my broken finger I was staggered by the wonderful messages you all left.
We are nearly back to normal now, so all that is left is for me to catch up on my commenting. Hopefully I will be a little faster and not be hitting two keys at the same time (lol).

I took myself off to Manchester for the weekend to spend some time with my S-i-l and rest my finger (it's much better now - nearly back to normal). There is a great little craft shop nearby and a Paper Mill shop in the Lowry Center which is only 15mins away so my purse didn't get a rest!! In fact my credit card to a bit of a bashing as well as we ended up booking tickets for Take That's Circus tour at Old Trafford CC in June. Everyone should have something to look forward to - that's my excuse.

House Mouse #26 - Mothers

Our challenge at House Mouse this week is Mothers. As mothers day is approaching (UK) I thought it would be a lovely idea for us all to make something for a mother. It doesn't have to be for your own mum, it can be for a friend, aunty, daughter, neighbour, anyone who's a mum - etc. that you think is a wonderful mum.

I chose to make a box to fill with small cards for my grandson to give to his mother,
as she is forever asking for cards for a variety of occasions. The tutorial for this is one Spitcoaststampers. This tutorial is for a box 3"x3" but I altered the measurements to make it 5"x5". There are only four cards in it at the moment but as I have until 22nd March I hope to have about 10/12 ready for then. I used Basic Grey Eva papers, and decorated it with Petaloo flowers and leaves from the Leone Em branch punch. This image is
Mudpie Munch coloured with watercolours and I started the cards with two baby cards
using the Cosy Shoe image.

Colour Create challenge #4 - Grey & Pink

"This week is my fave so far, I think the colours work so well together and, as you can see from the Design Team cards, there are many shades to choose from! Grey and Pink - gorgeous, Cute and Cuddly - eeek!! I don't do cute & Cuddly. I found this quite difficult until I came across this Alota image someone, I wish I could remember who sent me.Whoever you are many, many thanks - you've saved my bacon this week. Never being one to take the easy option I decided to do a multi-fold card, which I hope show up in the photos below.The paper is a download and the image coloured with pastels. I used Basic Grey Boxer stamps to stamp around the edges of the paper and pearls and ribbon are from stash.
When I have decided what the card is to be used for I will sentiments are verses to the insides.

I used Periphery papers this week and coloured the image - part of the wonderful download from the Cutting Cafe, with pastels. For the cream I used modelling paste
and the chocolate button is a large brad. I cut a circle out of a square of the
Periphery paper, cut this in to four and placed them at the four corners. I then
cut a circle out of the remaining cirlce to frame the cupcake. This is a favourite layout
of mine as I like the way it frames the main image. The sentiment circle is part of the download from the Cutting Cafe.

WOJ Guest Designer Call

I know I promised myself no challenges this week, let the finger heal, BUT - when I saw the fabulous sketch at WOJ this week and my stamps arrived - how could I resist.

Look at this little cutie (Willow with flower basket) - she's beautiful - and so summery. I
wanted to do a card with a clean, fresh summery feel to it. I originally went for yellow and green papers but ended up with blue and green - they are a download from Shabby Princess, called Signature C. I coloured Willow with pastels and followed the sketch with little or no deviation (one I shall certainly be using again), although a couple of flowers managed to sneak in as usual.

Update on 'Poorly' finger

Update on finger - it's broken - (stupid finger) - now it's strapped to the next one to support it. The longer bones are OK, apparently it's the knuckle that's either cracked or displaced, and if it's not better within a week or 10 days I have to take it to the hospital.

I'm supposed to rest it - haha!! I had nothing but facials, aromatherapy and hot stone massages at work - I can't do those with two fingers strapped together so I had to take the strapping off - WOW - did I notice the difference. Cleaning the bathroom became pretty impossible too - a friend suggested I wear rubber gloves - nice though but I think her brain was 'hurting' .

I decided not to do any challenges this week, just concentrate on my DT cards and catch up on commenting. So - can I now apologise to anyone who has received strange comments from me - typing and hitting the right key, infact just hitting one key is is virtually impossible and it's taking me forever to just leave one comment (LOL)

Colour Create challenge #3

Red, white and blue are the colours for this week's Colour Create challenge and there is an extra option available which you can use if you wish, although this isn't compulsory. This week's option is 'Holidays and Travel' and I hope that the wonderful Design Team cards will give you the inspiration you need.

I chose to do a 'Beach Hut'. I struggled with choosing an image as none of mine suited a travel or beach theme until I remembered some Hanglar images a friend sent me which I'd put on one side as thinking they were rather summery for now. I coloured these with pastels before cutting them out. The fishing line was so fine I managed to cut if off and then had to attach a piece of cotton (I really know how to make life difficult for myself!!). I had no suitable paper so had to design some on my computer. When I cut out the lifebuoy (a downloaded image) I managed to cut off the ropes and had to replace them with some cord (scavenged from a blind being discarded at work) but I really like the effect. I finished the whole with some metal charms.

Basic Grey - Challenge #20 - Hearts

To celebrate Valentines day over at the Basic Grey challenges we like you to use hearts

"As today is a very special day, we would like you to get all loved up in your creations and show us some hearts, it can be any size and any quantity of hearts you wish, and also not forgetting to use at least one item from BasicGrey somewhere on your creation."

I used Bittersweet Papers and Lizzie with box of Chocolates image which I coloured with pastels. The hearts are cut with the nestabilituy die and threaded and attached to silver cord. Basic cardstock is pink hammered. I used a corner stamp from the Basic Grey Boxer collection at the corners of the image.

A Painfully produced card for Whiff of Joy challenge #18

Not many cards made this week due to slight mishap with little finger. It being very silly got itself knocked and swelled up beyond belief. Now it's all swollen, lumpy, a beautiful shade of purple and won't bend. This has made crafting extremely difficult and somewhat painful - consequently making cards is a very slow process at the moment.


WOJ have a recipe for us to follow this week. Three patterned papers, two flowers and one brad or button.

I used Papermania Simply Elegant papers (curtesy of Martine - who kindly replaced, at her own expense, a challenge prize lost by the PO). I used hammered cardstock and cut the front from corner to corner so the inside shows. The third patterned paper I used for the flowers and to decorate the inside - hope this isn't cheating!!

Exciting News

I found out this morning I made the House Mouse challenge Design Team. I really didn't expect this as there were some amazing entrants. I am just about coming down to earth. I am so thrilled to be joining such a talented team along with two other new DT's Jami
and Patricia Rose - congratulations to them both.

Sketch and Stash

Sketch and Stash have a great sketch to follow this fortnight. My 'new' is my Alota Angels stamp. I purchased this some while ago (mainly for this coming year's Christmas cards). Having said that - it was my intention to make one Christmas card per week this year.
Total for January - 0, total for February - 1, and here it is! I coloured the image with watercolours - I didn't find it particularly easy to colour, but never do the first time.
IRL all the purples are the same tone, once my camera has been at them, they all look different, even under a daylight lamp. I struggle to photgraph both purples and reds. Does anyone else have this problem?

House Mouse #24 - Tall and Thin

Oh Boy - did this take me out of my comfort zone - Tall and Thin is this week's
House Mouse challenge. I just hopes this qualifies - it was about as tall and thin as I could muster. The image - Gentle Rain is coloured in watercolours and mounted onto olive green bazzill cs and the backing paper is Basic Grey - Offbeat.

Sketch Saturday #37 Jeanettes Sketch

I made this card yesterday and forgot to post it. I do wish I could get rid of this bout of 'wishy-washyness'. I don't seem to be able to settle to anything or do anything right today. - still tomorrows another day!
A fabulous sketch by Jeanette at Sketch Saturday this week. I decided to do a 'boy' card for this one and used Edwin from the Magnolias Christmas stamps. The papers are from HOTP Earth's Pallette Creative pack - good boyish papers. Edwin is coloured with pastels and the sentiment 'ribbon' is also from the pack. Trouble with 'boy' cards is I always feel a card is unfinished as it has not ribbons, flowers or pretty bits on it.

Please make your card using Peach and Aqua. You can also use cream/white for your cardstock and flesh colours for any images.
There is an extra option available which you can use if you wish, although this isn't compulsory. This week's option is 'DIY flowers', which means not using any pre made, bought flowers on your cards and projects. Here are some ideas which might help:
Stamp a flower onto card and cut it out
Punch and layer flowersDie cut flowers
Doodle your own flowers Stitch flowers Peel and mount stickers to form a flower Use shaped petals eg, hearts to form a flower
Make flowers from Nestie shapes
Make a ribbon flower

I'm sure there are lots more ways, please feel free to come up with your own! Don't forget that embossing, distressing, ink edging, etc will all add to the effect and you could add a stamen to the centre. Also glitter, glossy accents, liquid pearl drops might work well. Unusual materials might include tissue paper, vellum, acetate, chipboard...... just a few ideas.

I used the Sarah Kay image - Spring Blossom and coloured her with pastels. The basic cardstock is DCWV - Old World Stack. The flowers are cut with the EKSuccess Retro flower punch and mounted on a vine.

Friday Sketchers

A great sketch by Claudia is this week's Friday Sketcher challenge I've used Tilda with tag as my image and coloured her with pastels. THe BP is Paper Adventure's Old MacDonald's Farm (a strange name for such a beautiful paper) and the papers are various bits from my 'bit box' and the corners cut with Cuttlebug vintage die.

Look What I Got

Look what the postie brought me yesterday - it's from Georgia if you haven't visited her blog - do so - she is 12 years old and makes some amazing cards (takes after Mum Tara. I sent her some images and a small scrap album and this is what she sent me in return. A wonderful image wallet, some gorgeous flowers, sequined ribbon and some stamped images. I want to know how she knew Snoopy is one of my Heros (along with Calvin Mouse), especially in his JOE COOL get up. Thanks Georgia - I shall dedicate a card especially to you.

Basic Grey Challenge #21 - Let's Mix It Up

This week's challenge at Basic Grey is Mix and Match. Mix and match from different Basic Grey collections in your creation, it can be as many collections as you wish but no less than 2, for eg Blush + Sugared Infuse + Wassail + Boxer I used Ambrosia (the stripe) Boxer (the backing paper) and Archaic (the patterned stripe) I cut the bp from corner to corner and stitched it onto brown coredinations card. I use the cuttlebug labels die to cut the other two papers and set them at angles. I then cut oval nesties, stamped a swirl around the edge of the white added some Petaloo flowers and a gem. I finished it off with the ribbon. I used the same basic layout on the inside and will stamp a sentiment when I decide what it will be used for - I suspect a Mothers Day card.

WOJ challenge #17 - Donalda's sketch

Oh have I struggled with this card. Not I hasten to add anything to do with Donalda's wonderful sketch for this week's WOJ which was an absolute dream to do - more to do with a serious bout of 'Wishy Washiness' that overcame me. I couldn't make my mind up what papers or image to use. Probably too much choice!! I still think I chose the wrong image for this card but there it is - I'm not going round again.
The image, coloured with pastels, looked a little bleak so a stamped a scrolled edge that looks a totally different blue in the photograph - but isn't.

House Mouse Challenge #39 =Valentines

Valentines is the theme of this week's House Mouse challenge. I knew what I wanted to do but didn't have a heart die large enough so it had to be PC orientated - getting it the right size was fun (not). I chose to use Monica throwing petals, coloured with watercolours and used a PC generated sentiment 'He loves me, he loves me not'.

Magnolia vs Stampavie Colour challenge

Magnolia vs Stampavies first colour challenge. I'm not sure my colours are exact, but they are as near as I could get them. I thought photographing to day (with the light from the snow) would be easy - Hah!! Think again Heather.
I used the Stampavie image Hoo Hoo There, which I coloured with pastels. I used Paper Pizzaz Retro papers which amazingly came in the right colours - well almost.
