From the sublime to the ridiculous!!

I've gone from one extreme to the other - yesterday's card was CAS with gentle colours and today's has taken me to the opposite extreme, lots of hot colours and fussy papers. This is for Just Magnolia's Hot and Spicy theme this week. It certainly took me out of my comfort zone - hot & spicy just isn't me. I found these papers in my stash, they are Bo Bunny and I don't know what on earth possessed me to buy them, I really thought I'd never used  tehm - but here we are proved wrong again.

I chose my papers, coloured Ladybird Tilda with distress inks and then wondered how on earth I was going to put them together until I spotted the fabulous sketch at Sketch Saturday this week - perfect I thought. I've lightly distressed the edges of the oval and the patterned paper and used gold stickles around these edges (had to dig these out of retirement) and also Tilda's cap and hearts. I really feel with these colours Tilda should have had a pitchfork and horns but I don't have that image. The borders are cut with an MS deep border punch and the flowers and ribbon are from my stash.

Right back to commenting - I thought I was catching up but seem to be all behind again since my computer threw it's hissy fit last week.

Clean and Simple

Whoo-hoo - I love the clean, uncluttered look but am totally useless at it normally - I've actually managed to make one that I really like. I found a sketch at the Clean and Simples Stamping challenge that I liked and decided to have a go. I think I shall do this challenge each week until I become 'good' at it. Think how much easier life will be when it gets to Christmas with dozens and dozens of cards still to be made.

I took a piece of plain white cardstock and embossed it top and bottom with a Provo craft Organic flourish embossing folder, scored two lines above the lower and beneath the upper to separate the middle portion. I cut two butterflies with the Marianne creatable stencil, one in blue and the upper one in blue patterned vellum. I added pearls to the body and then attached it to the ribbon and finally stamped a WOJ sentiment. I mounted the whole onto blue card onto the white. Not only clean and simple but quick and easy, although I did move things round a little as you can see.

Well it's a miserable day here, dark and raining but at least it's dampened down the pollen so my hay fever isn't as bad - I've felt pretty bleurrghh all week.   I have fields outside and the farmer cut his grass last week but hopefully won't be doing that again for a while.  It would be good if he planted some potatoes or asparagus (this is the area for them) then I could pop out in the darkness with my little bag - NO - wouldn't dare - I'd get caught.

Basic Grey DT - A sketch

We have a fabulous sketch by the lovely Martine at Basic Grey this week, which she has left bare so that you have a choice in where to put your embellishments.

The prize, from our one and only sponsor the fabulous Simons Says  is a $25 voucher to spend in the store.

I couldn't make my mind up which image to use for this one,  first I tried this, then that, stamped a few - no - nothing floated my boat so I dispensed of an image altogether and chose a quote as my main focal point. Right, which quote should I use, gosh there are so many. The one I really like was too long so I opted for this simple little one. I used Basic Grey's Obscure papers, a pad I've had for ages and never touched before. The quote is printed on a patterned vellum as are the flowers which are cut with Woodware Cherry blossom punches.  The butterfly is a Marianne creatables cutting stencil, cut twice with the top layer again in vellum, the leaves are coloured by inking through a skeleton leaf and cut by hand. There is a liberal use of stickles, which you can actually see for a change.

Mo's Digital Challenge

I'm catching up on all the images I have from Mo's Digital Pencil and I'm entering Mo's Digital Challenge again, which is 'Celebrate Babies'. I knew as soon as I saw the delightful image I had to have her, not only that she had to be in yellow - strange really as I don't normally do yellow.

She is coloured in a mixture of distress inks and Copics - don't ask!!! I was in one of those experimental moods again, so I won't list the colours of either otherwise you'll end up as confused as I normally am. The papers are a mixture of  digital downloads, the circle stamp is SU (my lovely friend Mandi sent me - I won't tell you why or she'll kill me) and the sentiment is Inkadinkado, the borders are cut with a Carla Craft punch and rest is from stash.

Now I'm going to do some more tiling in my kitchen, then I shall do some commenting and after that I feel another card coming on - is the day long enough ............... probably not   lol.  

Simon Says, Sketch and Stamp

I love the colour choice at Simon Says this week, blue or pink with green and brown. I love blue and green together so no choice necessary here. I followed the fabulous sketch by Maggie over at Sketch and Stamp.

I knew I wanted to use Maya blowing Bubbles - this gorgeous image by Crissy Armstrong (she is a digi-image and available HERE at Whimsy stamps. I've coloured Maya previously in Copics but really wanted to try her in Distress inks - in future I shall stick to copics - strange how some images call for one medium and others another. I used the Magnolia champagne glass with bubbles (masked the glass) to add extra bubbles, on all of which I used Stardust stickles.

The papers are a download from Shabby Princess called Signature collection. I embossed the center circle with a Spellbinders Impressabilites called circles to which I also added stickles to continue the theme of bubbles.

I add a flower from Papirloftet, swirls cut from a Marianne stencil and a sentiment from Hero Arts and the ribbon is from stash.

Now I'm going to see if I can finish sorting out the mess my computer got itself into when the power sockets failed - I still have things I can't find anywhere, including the tutorial I was doing on braiding. I might just cut my loss and do it again.

Truly Scrumptious DT

Time for another challenge at Truly Scrumptious and this we we have another of Mina's fabulous sketches with the extra option of embossing - any kind of embossing you like - it's up to you.

We have a fabulous prize in store for you this week from Digital Delights of a $10 voucher to spend in the store - a magical place filled with digi creations from all walks of life.

I used one of my new Hanglars (I've always loved hAnglars, but love 'em even more now I've got some - they are such a delight to colour). This little cutie is coloured with distress inks, and her wings sparkled using Stardust stickles. I cut here out and mounted her using foam on a frame cut with a Marianne creatable stencil. The pink debossed paper is from my 'bit box' and the coloured from the Crafty Individuals background paper pack - Trees. The border is cut with a MS deep punch and the flower made using the EK Success retro flower punch and Mulberry paper. I hand cut the leaves and cut the hearts using Spellbinder heart nesties. I cut several layers, stuck them together, stamped the sentiment on them (Lily of the Valley), inked the edges and covered them with crackle paint. I didn't want too much crackle effect so just used a thin layer - another experiment gone wrong - you can hardly see the crackles at all.

A Card for Jayme

I'm sending this card to Jayme, the sister of Lisa my 'teamie' on the House Mouse challenge blog.

I am having a special event for my sister Jayme. She is in her early 50's and has terminal lung cancer. To make it worse, her sweet dachshund Molly passed away a couple weeks ago. Today we learned her cancer has spread to several other areas and her time is running out. I am asking for all my card making friends to send her a fun card...not really get well cards obviously, but something pretty or funny that will make her smile. She is a frog collector so frog cards would be awesome! I have been blessed by all those I design for to have a wonderful offer of blog candy. Details are below on how to enter. I will choose a winner June 2nd.

I had intended to do a 'froggie' card but my computer had an electric shock at weekend - my electric supply to my sockets failed and the consequence of this everything in my computer was jumbled up. I spent the whole of Saturday and Sunday trying to sort everything out and still not finished. Where are my download images I'd like to know. I've done a search and found some but my froggie seems to have completely disappeared. I did this card some time ago and think it was one of my successful experiments and I actually like this one. The sentiment is eminently suitable so decided this should be the one for Jayme.

I used the image 'Wishin Well' with Itty Bit, Bumble and Hop It and coloured it with my usual Copics. I do love this image, but it is so huge there is little room for anything else on the card. The DP is Graphic 45, the sentiment computer generated, the corners cut with an MS punch and all else is from stash. That's it - short and sweet but it does keep a longish post shorter.

I won't list all the Copics used  (too many) - suffice to say the left hoppy was the E 30's, the middle one E 70's and the right one the C's.

Mo's Digital Challenge

I have so many of Mo's images sat in my file I haven't had time  to use lately. 

The theme at Mo's Digital Challenge this week is "What's love got to do with it?" What has love got to do with it you might ask when you see

 the image I've used. When I was a child I had my hair in two little pigtails

 - I also had a little trike - it was Maroon, and at about three years old that trike was the love of my life. This image reminds me so much of  peddling my way happily through life, until sadly I grew and my trike didn't and I had to 

say goodbye to it..

I coloured this image before I chose papers - WRONG!! I normally choose the image, then the papers and colour accordingly. I could not find papers to match the image but eventually dug out these Basic Grey Christmas papers (trashing my room in the process) - they are a mixture of Dasher and Fruit cake. I followed the sketch at Friday Sketchers, the border is cut with an EKSuccess punch and the flowers with a Nellie Snellon punch and emboss punch, everything else is from my stash.

I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this image when I bought it. I wanted to leave it basically uncoloured and let it 'speak' for itself. I just love the joy on the faces of these nuns.I suppose this could fall into the category of LOVE - they certainly seem to be loving life. I printed them onto a cream cardstock, coloured again with Copics, cut them out with a MS punch, simply added corners cut with an EK Success punch and a little black bling.

I think this stunning Graphic 45 paper is just perfect as a background for them.The ribbon is a sort of cotton twill I cut of something ages ago, I tied a knot, frayed the ends and added a small cross charm.

Had a little 'oops' with this one when the cat jumped on my knee, dug his claws in and my pen slid off the image - top left hand nun's head. I managed to remove most of the mark but not quite all - had I used Copic paper probably would have been able to lift it altogether.

Well I was a good girl yesterday, cleaned my house from top to bottom, did my shopping - we have yet another holiday here on Monday, finished off all my paperwork (bar a couple of things in German I need to translate) so this weekend is going to be 'playtime'. Hope you all have a great weekend.

Simon Says - A Spoonful of Sugar

This is for the challenge over at Simon Says which is for a tent card and charms. Really enjoyed this so thanks  Dena,  who set this week's challenge. I think this also fits the Spoonful of Sugar challenge this week of 'Cute and Girly' - I think she's girly and she's certainly cute.

Another Hanglar, this time a little girl - you're going to get fed up of these soon, promise I'll do something different tomorrow. This one is coloured with Copics, cut out and 'sat' on the side of the aperture which is cut with Spellbinder label 4 - (I think!!) I attached the cut out portion to the inside of the card. The corners are stamped with a stamp from Prima Build a Frame using Victorian velvet distress ink. The swirls are cut with a Marianne die and the heart button I made using several layers of cards, inked it, then covered with glossy accents. I made the braid (will finish my tutorial soon - promise!!!) coloured it with Copics and threaded it through the heart button and tied it into a bow. Below is a close up of the charms and 'button'.

Well it's an early night for me tonight. My 'darling' cat decided it was playtime in the middle of last night. He was leaping over the bed, under the bed, back over and sounded like a herd of elephants. Next was the wall of death around the room, leaping from bedside cabinet to chest of drawers and every piece of furniture in the room.  For his grand finale he decided to climb and swing from the curtains. Hence a sleepless night and I can honestly say if he does that again in the middle of the night it won't be the curtains he's swinging from!

Sketch Saturday

I've dragged one of my little Hanglar boys out from hibernation for Sketch Saturday this week.

He's coloured with Copics, I've managed to lose my list again, but used the BV's and the W's mainly with skin the usual YR0000, E00, E02 & R20. The browny patterned dp is SU and the rest are a ancient downloads. The flowers are cut with EKSucces punches (waterlily I think), the buttons are Basic Grey and the two 'fronds' top and bottom of the flowers are Spellbinders shapeabilities which I've embossed and coloured. The sentiment is Hero Arts. The colours on this one have not photographed well at all, particularly the image, the sentiment and the thread tying the buttons, I will photograph it again should it ever come light today.

Now I shall get back to wading through my boring paperwork - not easy when it's mainly in German. I also have to write a letter, (include identity), to my bank in the UK - giving my new address for an account I've closed. I'm speechless over this - beaurocracy gone mad again methinks.

Ooops an easel card

Those of you who know me will know I regularly make a card upside down or back to front. My solution to this is to turn it into an easel card - here comes another one. I swear each time I will NOT do it again, but I do!!

This one is following the sketch at Create4fun and the theme of One for the Girls at Just Magnolia

Tilda is coloured in Copics and cut out with round nestabilities,  I cut an extra thin circle and set it off center.I The edges of the images are inked and the extra stardust is  a Lavinia stamp.. The bp is Magnolia and the strip a download, the sentiment WOJ, the corners Provocrafts vintage corners and  a Spellbinders fancy tags label used to cut label  on the inside. The flowers are from  my stash and the flourishes cut with a Marianne die. I used stardust stickles on the 'stardust'. the edges of the circles, the corners and the two flourishes.

It was my Grandaughter's confirmation yesterday and luckily the weather was kind to us. I thought I would have photographs to share with you, but bird brain here took my camera and after 2 photographs - the battery ran out - grrrrrr -  there's really no hope for me!!

Copic Creations DT

Here is my second posting for the day - this one is for Copic Creations where the challenge this time is MONOCHROME.

We did have a little help from our SUPER talented sponsor for this challenge . . . Katie Cotton! Katie is the creator and owner of the stamp company Paper Makeup Stamps. I hope you have the time to visit her store, she has some awesome images that are perfect for Copic coloring. Everyone on the CC Design Team has created some true masterpieces using this technique and images graciously supplied to us by Katie from Paper Makeup Stamps.

I chose the image 'Moody for Fashion' and used the cool greys to colour her - C00, C1, C2, C3, C5, C7.

I did think her hair looked a little stark because of the monochrome colouring so I added a few highlights with a white gel pen.

The papers are a mixture of Graphic 45 (the background paper) and Bo Bunny, the one the image is mounted on and the stripe. I used a Spellbinders fancy tag either side of the image, two corners from an EK Success corner punch, a few pearls and some ribbon from my stash and that was it - twice this week, not a flower in sight.

Basic Grey DT

I used the beautiful Kioshi papers and the WOJ image Confirmand Melinda which I coloured with distress inks. I used the resist technique (I'm just loving  this at the moment and can't stop using it) -  I used a Stempelglede Grunge stamp and them sponged with a combination of colours. The two border strips are punch with an MS punch and the flowers with the EK Success retro flower punches, the small leaves are a Woodware punch and the swirls from a Marianne die. The sentiment is computer generated and cut using on of the Spellbinders fancy tags.

I follower the fab sketch by Domi for the Simon Says challenge this week and I shall also enter it into the Quixotic challenge which requests hand made flowers.

I shall be back later with my DT card for Copic Creations - first breakfast - scrambled eggs on toast and fresh orange juice I think!!

A first - not one flower!!

This one is for Stampavie who are asking of Pink and I followed the fabulous sketch by Jane Whiff of Joy.

I just love this image, she's so beautiful. I coloured her in Copics and stamped and distressing the edges with Tim Holtz's Victorian velvet, also the swirls in the top right corner.  The papers are also Tim Holtz's from the Vintage Shabby paper stack. The border is cut with the Carla Craft Macaron punch and  the two swirls from a Marianne die. The sentiment is WOJ - I didn't like it stamped in black, I didn't like it stamped in pink so I overstamped it, slightly off and now decided I don't like that either, it looks blurred, will have to change it!! The pearls are from the Hobby House and the ribbon from my stash.

Truly Scrumptious

Time for another Truly Scrumptious challenge. We loved looking at your hidden message cards for our last challenge so keep the entries coming in.

Onto our next challenge and this week we have a sketch for you designed by Sharon and the optional extra is to omit the square base and make a round card.

For this challenge we welcome back Sandra Dry digi stamps as our sponsor. Sandra is a very talented lady and has some gorgeous digi images available from her store. She also joins us as a guest designer for this challenge and has made a fabulous card using one of her own designs.

I've turned my sketch into a double sided door/wall hanger. I have an emergency errand to run now
so will fill in the details as soon as I return.

I used one of  Eline's babies and all the papers are from Eline's stack. The image is coloured with distress inks and surrounded by a cut and emboss stencil by Joy. The flourishes are cut with a Marianne die and the borders with a Spellbinders shapeabilities pendant.  The small flowers are cut with the EKSuccess small retro flower punch. The B is from an alphabet set of stamps (unknown origin), covered with glossy accents an set in the middle of flower stamp from Elines collection.

I bought this ribbon at the NEC, it has threads running through it which you pull to form a circle. This circle is so large I couldn't imagine when I was going to use it but I finally managed to find a use for it as the frame for the flowers which are all from my stash.

Sketch Saturday

I've dug out my Hanglars, I was sent a whole heap of images by a friend about 18 months ago and have used them only sparingly thinking I wouldn't be able to get any more. Stupid - I know - what's the point of having them if you don't use them. Now they are more readily available I feel I really should start using them.

I've actually managed another challenge, I can't tell you how great it is being able to see pictures on blogs again and what a difference it makes being able to comment once more. So much time wasted trying to find blogs where I could actually see a card. I could never see mine on the House Mouse blog and even emailed Christine to have a look and tell me if it was there.

I've followed the great sketch over at Sketch Saturday for this one.  The papers are a download from Designs by Krista (link in sidebar). I used the curved rectangles nesties for both the image and the sentiment which is Motivet, the borders are cut with a MS punch, the hydrangea flowers are Prima and annoy me immensly as they always look so dark in photographs and they're not!! The central roses are from Wild Orchid and the leaves cut with a Woodware punch. I was itching to add more embellishments but resisted, although I still think it needs something in the top left-hand corner. I think that's it for this one.

Tilda wishes Simon a Happy Birthday - twice!!

It's celebration time over at Simon Says this week as it is their first blogoversary and they are asking for Birthday/Celebration cards. They also have a fun blog hop with a prize on each blog and an amazing basket of goodies at the end.

I've been playing and experimenting again. I wanted to try brayering and creating a scene. Brayering is not easy, but I'm getting there slowly methinks.  I attempted to create a magical, fairytail scene for Tilda. I couldn't make my mind up whether to use white and resist stamping or brayer then stamp with a darker ink so I ended up doing both. I know which result I prefer.

This first card I'm dedicating to the lovely Hanna, whose 14th birthday it was on Friday, too late to send her a card so I emailed her a photograph of this and am dedicating it to her and thanking her for her wonderful sketches and the inspiration she continually provides me with.

Firstly I stamped Tilda, masked her then I brayered the background with various colours. Next I stamped the leaves, castle, grass etc around the outside. A few of these stamps I bought at the NEC last October from Lavinia stamps, some I've had for ages. I then unmasked Tilda and coloured her with

Copics  -  (Skin -  YR0000,  E00, E02, R20,,Hair - Y0000, E70, E71  Dress - B0000, B00, B93 Frog -Y0000, G00, G20) I used stardust stickles on Tilda's wings and I finished it with a little stardust stamp to which I added liquid pearls then sprinkled glitter over them.

The sentiment and corner are cut with a Nellie Snellon die.

On this one I used the resist technique, stamping the grass, castle etc with a clear pad and embossing powder before brayering the background. The Copics used for this one were the same as above apart from her dress for which I used BV0000, BV02, BV04.  The sentiment frame is SU and was sent to me by the lovely Mandi. This one looked a little naked so I added an almost clear ribbon and a pearl button from the Hobby House.

Right I think I shall go and do some 'hopping'

A Wedding Card for Domi at Simon Says

Simon Says Domi's wedding day cardchallenge

I made this card in February, I enjoyed making it so much that when JM asked for a tent cardwith a swinging image  a few weeks later I used the same 'formula' - cut out heart with the 'Happy Couple' swinging from the aperture. I saved this one knowing at some point in time it would be needed - what better time than to send it to Domi and Uli on their wedding day.

The borders are from Prima 'Build a Frame' and stamped in brown Versafine ink. The heart is Stempleglede (stamped twice, the inner part of one is cut out after resist stamping and sponged with Vintage photo distress ink and attached with foam pads). the flowers, leaves and pearls are all from my stash.

Edwin and Tilda are stamped on the inside of the card (which is cream and I found I had to adjust the colouring accordingly). I masked Tida and Edwin, Cut out a another heart and used the part that was cut out as a frame and inked and stamped around the edge. I attached another heart to the top corner together with the WOJ sentiment and a charm attached with a pearl brad.

This is one I really like and I now want to try something similar again.

I was thrilled to bits when Georgia asked me to be Guest Designer at Crafty Calender this month and what a fabulous theme it is - The Great Outdoors. The DT's have come up with some amazing creations - just check them out.

I just loved doing this card - once I'd got my masking in the right order that is - using two images I don't have a problem - three and I always manage to get one the wrong way round. Poor Edwin was impaled on the fence at one point - I quickly rescued him and he's fortunately no worse for wear.

I coloured the images with distress inks and used Copics for the background shading fo a change - I usually do it the other way round. The background and Edwin are both Magnolia of course and the fence is WOJ.

The patterned bp is from my 'bit box' (I have some rather large pieces in my bit box) and the ribbon is pure silk tie-died and very touchy-feely. I used a MS punch for the large butterfly, the smaller one is a stamp (origin unknown) which I cut out and the pearls are Basic Grey.

 I'm going to enter this one into Just Magnolia's special monthly challenge which is 'It takes Two'

Right, back to painting radiators, much rather be painting images!!
